There has been a huge global increase in the consumption of caffeine. It is found in coffee, tea, cola-based drinks and chocolate. Caffeine is mildly addictive, making it one of the world's most widely used drugs. It can cause a number of health problems.
1- It can interfere with iron absorption. So it should be avoided around mealtimes for people at risk of iron deficiency.
2- Caffeine stimulates the central nervous system, increasing your heart rate and blood pressure.
3- It can irritate your stomach, cause headaches and insomnia.
4- Excess caffeine in pregnancy has been linked with low birth weight babies. The current advice for expectant mothers is to drink or eat no more than 200mg a day.

A bunion is a bony deformity of the joint at the base of the big toe.

The main sign of a bunion is the big toe pointing towards the other toes on the same foot, which may force the foot bone attached to it (the first metatarsal) to stick outwards. The medical name for this toe deformity is hallux valgus.

This can change the shape of your foot and lead to swelling, pain and tenderness around the big toe.

These symptoms usually get worse if the bunion is left untreated, so it is best to see a GP at some stage. Your GP will be able to examine your foot and recommend treatments.

It was said to be a 'Perfect day'...but it soon turned into a disaster. With three killed and more than a hundred injured, here at Age121, our thoughts are with everyone affected by the Boston tragedy. The events were horrific, shocking and extremely heart-breaking, however words cannot do any justice. We hope that those who are responsible for this tragic disaster get their rightful punishment.

Don't drop the patient...

Moving a patient and handling them in the correct manner can sometimes be tricky, without the correct training. It is not something that should be taken lightly and proper training is needed. After all, no one wants to be man-handled by their carer or medical helper, do they ?

AGE121 offer training in People Moving and Manual Handling; for people looking to go into the health care field, this sort of training would be highly beneficial.

As human beings we are not pieces of meat (although cannibals may beg to differ), and so we do not want to be thrown around with very little TLC, when in the hands of a carer/medical helper.

Unless you intended to be a meat handler and somehow have ended up in a health care position, then please look into getting into your right field.
